Tomato Rice Recipe
Tomato rice is the one of easy recipe. This dish is super easy to make, and taste was amazing. It is made of basic ingredients like rice, tomatoes and some spices. The best part of this recipe is that it can made in few minutes.
This is perfect recipe when you are too hungry or in hurry. In this blog, I will show how to make tomato rice step by step by traditional way or using pressure cooker in easy version.
🌱Ingredients:
For the rice:
• 1 cup basmati rice or regular white rice
• 2 cups water
• Salt accordingly
For the tomato masala:
• 2 tbsp oil (or ghee for extra flavor)
• 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
• 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
• 1 medium onion, finely chopped
• 2–3 garlic cloves, minced
• 1 green chili, slit (optional for heat)
• 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
• 1/2 tsp red chili powder
• 1/2 tsp garam masala or sambar powder
• 3–4 ripe tomatoes, finely chopped or pureed
• Salt to taste
• Fresh coriander leaves (for garnish)
Optional Ingredients:
• 1 dried red chili
• A few curry leaves
• A pinch of asafoetida (hing)
• 1 tbsp roasted peanuts or cashews (for crunch)
👩‍🍳Instructions:
Cook the Rice:
• Rinse rice thoroughly and cook it with 2 cups of water and a pinch of salt. Let it cool and fluff it up gently. Set aside.
Prepare the Masala:
• Heat oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds.
• Add cumin seeds, curry leaves, and dried red chili.
• Add chopped onions and saute until golden brown.
• Add garlic and green chili. Saute for a minute.
• Add turmeric, red chili powder, and garam masala. Mix it well.
Add Tomatoes:
• Add chopped or pureed tomatoes. Cook until the oil separates and the raw smell is gone (about 5–10 minutes). Mix it well.
• Add salt accordingly.
Combine Rice and Masala:
• Add the cooked rice and mix gently so the masala coats the rice evenly.
• Cook on low heat for 2–3 minutes.
Finish and Serve:
• Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and roasted peanuts or cashews (optional).
• Serve hot with raita, pickle, or plain yogurt.
