Ingredients (for 2 servings):
Bread slices – 4 to 5 (white, brown, or multigrain)
Onion – 1 medium, finely chopped
Green chili – 1, finely chopped (optional)
Tomato – 1 small, finely chopped (optional)
Capsicum – 1 small, finely chopped (optional)
Ginger – 1 tsp, grated (optional)
Mustard seeds – ½ tsp
Curry leaves – 6–8 (optional but adds good flavours)
Turmeric powder – ¼ tsp
Red chili powder – ¼ tsp (optional)
Salt – to taste
Sugar – ½ tsp (optional, balances the flavours)
Oil – 1½ tbsp
Fresh coriander leaves – for garnish
Lemon juice – 1 tsp (optional, for flavour)
🍳 Instructions:
Prep the bread:
• Cut bread slices into small cubes (bite-sized pieces).
• Keep aside.
Cook the base:
• Heat oil in a pan.
• Add mustard seeds. Let them splutter.
• Add curry leaves, green chili, and grated ginger.
• Add chopped onions and sauté till soft and translucent.
• Add tomatoes and capsicum (if using). Cook until slightly soft.
Add spices:
• Add turmeric powder, red chili powder, salt, and sugar.
• Mix well and cook for 2–4 minutes.
Add bread:
• Add bread cubes to the pan.
• Gently mix everything so the bread is coated with the masala.
• Cook for 2–3 minutes on low flame, mix it well.
Finish:
• Turn off the heat.
• Add lemon juice and chopped coriander.
• Serve hot with tea or as a quick snack!
✅ Tips:
• Stale bread works better as it doesn’t turn mushy easily.
• You can add boiled peas, grated carrots, or even paneer for variation.
• Toast bread lightly before cutting if you like a firmer texture.
