Onion Paratha Recipe
📝Ingredients
For Dough:
- 2 cups whole wheat flour (atta)
- Salt as per required
- Water to knead the dough
- 1 tsp oil (optional, to enhance taste)
For Onion Filling:
- 1 large onion (finely chopped)
- 1-2 green chilies (finely chopped)
- 2 tbsp fresh coriander leaves
- ½ tsp red chili powder
- ½ tsp cumin seeds (jeera) or ajwain (carom seeds)
- ½ tsp garam masala or chat masala
- Salt accordingly
- 1 tbsp besan (gram flour) or dry wheat flour (optional, to soak onion moisture)
For Cooking:
- Ghee or oil for roasting
👩🍳Instructions:
- Make Dough
- In a mixing bowl, combine wheat flour, salt and water.
- Knead into a soft, smooth dough.
- Cover and let it rest for 10-20 minutes.
2. Prepare Filling
- Mix Chopped onions, green chilies,coriander, and spices in a bowl.
- Just before stuffing, add a little flour or besan to absorb moisture (prevents the paratha from tearing).
3. Stuff the Paratha
- Divide the dough into balls.
- Roll one ball into a small circle (about 4-5 inches)
- Place 1-2 tbsp onion filling in the center.
- Bring the edges together, pinch to seal, and flatten slightly.
- Roll gently into a larger circle (about 6-7 inches).
4. Cook the Paratha
- Heat a tawa on medium high heat.
- Place the rolled paratha on it.
- Cook one side till light brown spots appear, then flip.
- Apply ghee or oil on both sides and cook till golden and crisp.
